A global automotive OEM had three of its high volume trans families – common between multiple vehicle apps – nearing its production cycle and moving into service domain. All components involving peculiar manufacturing processes were machined and assembled at the OEM’s transmission plant with existing external suppliers value-chain for forging, stampings, castings, and subcomponents. Within two months, the OEM plant would cease operations given the programs end of production life. The key objectives were:
- Forecast lifetime service and reman demand
- Identify and perform duecare removal of key plant manufacturing equipment & tools
- Strategically source plant value-add ops to external vendors by developing synergies
